Matthew graduated with a 1st Class BA (hons) in Musical Theatre from ArtsEd London in 2012. Early in his career, he played Boy George in Taboo (10th anniversary revival, Brixton Club House, earning a Broadway World UK Awards nomination for Best Leading Actor in a Musical) and Alf in Darling of the Day (Union Theatre). He later reprised his role as Boy George in the New York 10th anniversary concerts of Taboo at 54 Below.
His West End credits include a two-year engagement in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at Theatre Royal Drury Lane (Assistant Children’s Director, u/s Mr. Beauregarde), Doctor in the RSC’s Matilda the Musical (Cambridge Theatre), Swing and cover for Dr. Pomatter and Ogie in the West End production of Waitress and Swing for all the brothers in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat at The London Palladium in 2019 and again in 2021.
Beyond the West End, he played Skimbleshanks in the International Tour of Cats . In 2021-2022, he starred as Ned Schneebly in the inaugural UK and Ireland tour of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s School of Rock, followed by Gordon Shakespeare in Debbie Isitt’s Nativity the Musical at Birmingham Rep. Most recently, in 2023-2024, Matthew played Mr. Wormwood in the International Tour of the RSC’s Matilda the Musical.
Alongside performing, Matthew works professionally as both a director and choreographer. He is currently the Assistant Director & Choreographer of the UK Tour of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Additional credits include Choreography for Fame! and A Chorus Line at The Bob Hope Theatre for Glenlyn Academy, Stephen Sondheim's Putting It Together in London's West End and Gypsy at Bird College. In early 2025, he returned to Bird College to Direct and Choreograph Urinetown, a 3rd Year Musical.
Matthew has been teaching Musical Theatre for many years, holding Head of Dance positions at various institutions, including Masquerade Theatre Arts and Stagecoach academies. He has also taught at vocational colleges such as ArtsEd London, The BRIT School, Emil Dale Academy, London Studio Centre, and Pineapple Dance Studios.
He is delighted to serve as Principal of Vibe Arts and is passionate about delivering unique training to promising young students.
